A trappy little six-runner race here, where all the entries have cases, including the likely favourite – Lunario.
However, this Alice Haynes runner does look a shade short in the betting to me – based on several reasons.
Yes, this 4 year-old has been running very well of late – with five top three finishes in his recent outings – and since the blinkers were applied he’s 1-2-2-3.
But as a result he’s creeping up the handicap too and is now racing off a mark 7lbs higher than his last win. In fact, that last win was also his ONLY success from 14 runs, so you feel, despite running consistently, he’s a horse that tends to be placed more than win.
The other worries if I were a backer would be that he’s got a big 10-2 in reacing weight to carry here as the top-rated in the field and the Haynes team don’t have a great record on the July course – they are currently 0-from-23.
Of the rest, the Marco Botti yard have a nice 33% record with their 4+ year-old at the track and jockey Marco Ghiani also rides this course well (23% with 4+ year-olds) – so we’ll have their Strategia on our side. We’ll also have Hitched, who should be better for a return 4th last time out and also the Buick-ridden Royal Tapestry.
