A tight litle race here, with just six runners heading to post, but the in-form Local Bay looks the one to take on at the prices.
This Tony Carroll runner has won three of his last four races – however, as a result, has shot up 10lbs in the ratings. He won at Epsom last time by 1/2 a-length but is up another 3lbs here and this will be his fifth run since 7th June.
I feel this busy spell, and the handicapper, will catch up with Local Bay at some point and now he’s off a mark of 70, so will need a career-best to win. Oh, he’s tried to get his head in-front five times off a mark of 70+ and failed each time.
Yes, promosing claimer Jack Doughty will ride again to claim a handy 5lbs, but he’s also been on his back in his last three outings so his claim doesn’t really come into it. In fact, he was actually able to take off 7lb in his second and third last runs – but can only offset 5lbs this time.
Of the rest, the O’Shea team have won this race twice since 2015 and so it’s interesting they run another – Macs Dilemma, who is also the only course winner in the field. While the Balding (Lady Flora) and Prescott (Jazz Scene) have their horses in good form at the moment and so we’ll also have this pair on our side.
