This Tony Carroll runner is in tip-top form – winning three of his last five starts.
But, as a result, the handicapper has hiked him up 3lbs from the last of those wins and he also had 5lb claimer Jack Doughty riding that day and he can only take off 3lbs this time.
This means he’s really racing off a 5lb higher mark here and that seemed to prove too much last time at Chepstow, when beaten 4 1/2 lengths into third of this 70 rating.
He’s also dropping back to 7f here today and despite being a winner over this trip, I feel nowdays he’s better over a mile – with the last times he’s raced over 6f or 7f resulted in 4-3-3-7-6-4-3 finishes.
Yes, only four others will be running for us, but this looks a tight little race for the grade with all the others proven course winners too.
The final negative is that this is also a step up to Class 4 and Local Bay’s recent wins have all come in lower class races – he’s raced three times in Class 4 level and been beaten each time.
