ITV Racing Tips for Saturday 8th February
1:50pm Newbury – Handicap Hurdle
Selection: Magical King (Win) @ 6/1
Despite Stuart Edmunds’ yard not being in top form, MAGICAL KING has shown promise and could be well-handicapped for this staying hurdle. He has been too keen in recent starts but still managed a strong second at Haydock. With more pace in this race, he should settle better and have plenty left at the finish.
2:05pm Warwick – Kingmaker Novices’ Chase
No Bet
L’Eau Du Sud is odds-on and expected to win. With little value in the market, we’re taking a watching brief.
2:40pm Warwick – Mares’ Hurdle
Selection: West Balboa (Win) @ 9/4
Gala Marceau is a talented runner, but Willie Mullins’ British raiders have underperformed this season. WEST BALBOA is better than her recent form suggests, and cheekpieces could spark improvement. She’s a previous course winner and should handle soft ground better than most.
3:00pm Newbury – Game Spirit Chase
Selection: JPR One (Win) @ 9/1
With Sir Gino withdrawn, this Grade Two looks wide open. JPR ONE won the Haldon Gold Cup in style and ran a solid third to Jonbon in the Tingle Creek, despite unfavourable ground. If Matata and Edwardstone go too hard upfront, he could pick them off late at a great price.
3:15pm Warwick – Veterans’ Handicap Chase
Selection: Smarty Wild (Win) @ 8/1
SMARTY WILD ran well in the Veterans Final and is better over shorter trips. He tracked the leaders but faded late on. The drop in distance is a big plus, and off 125, he looks a strong contender.
3:35pm Newbury – William Hill Handicap Hurdle
No Bet (Watching Brief)
This is an ultra-competitive renewal with Secret Squirrel, Navajo Indy, Joyeuse, and Favour And Fortune all having claims. We’ll keep an eye on the market but won’t be getting involved.
