Amateur riders’ race here and with no disrespect intended, these riders are very inexperienced – which is the first negative.
This Ivan Furtado runner has been runner-up the last three times at Chepstow and Beverley (twice), but despite knocking on the door has only won once on the turf from 28 starts. The bulk of his career wins (4) have been on the AW.
Star Of St James also had a 7lb claimer on his back for the last two runs and still hasn’t managed to get his head in front, while the handicapper has made things harder still by raising him 2lbs for a recent silver at Beverley.
Trip and track are fine – he’s run twice here before (2nd and 3rd), but with today’s rider (Step Dorey) having only had five career rides and trainer Ivan Furtado 0-from-23 here at the track, then I’m happy to look elsewhere for the winner.
