A winner last time out at Wolves, but that was Newfangled’s first career win at the tenth try and I think at the prices there is not much downside in taking him on today.
Yes, that win would have given him confidence and he could easily kick on again in an average race.
However, he’s up 2lbs here and only just got home by 1/2 a length last time and, more importantly, is back on the grass today – with that win coming on the AW.
He’s still 0-from-7 on the turf and a lot of his grass efforts also came with a bit of cut underfoot – which he certainly won’t get today.
The Portman team are also currently 0-from-32 here at Lingfield and head here 0-from-12 with their runners in the last few weeks.
The final question mark is the trip – okay, he ran on well over 1m 1 1/2f last time and is only up a tad to 1m2f here today. But this will be the furthest he’s every gone and so will just have a tiny bit to prove.
