This Adam West runner has been knocking at the door in recent runs – finishing in the top four in five of his last six runs.
However, he’s tried to win off today’s 64 mark twice now and been 7th and 3rd each time, plus is still looking for his first career win from 10 starts.
The other question mark is the trip, as he’s stepping up to 1m2f today – which will be the first time he’s raced over this far in his career. Meaning, in what will be soft ground, his unproven stamina will be stretched to the max, while his pedigree doesn’t exactly say he’ll last out being by a sprinter family.
A slight niggle is that the yard won this race two years ago, but that winner had a featherweight there and dropped in grade here Hello Cotai will have to shoulder 9st 8lbs – the second highest weight he’s had to burden.
Hello Cotai is also untried at Epsom and, as we know, the Surrey venue isn’t always an easy track to handle. On a plus, he’s handled Goodwood in the past, which can be tricky too – but it’s still an unknown here.
Finally, it looks a competitive race despite only five others in the race – but they all have cases including Charlies Morin and Commander Crouch, who will be ridden by the in-form Paddy Bradley and Pat Cosgrave.
While, in contrast, Hello Cotai’s jockey Kieran O’Neill has only fired in one winner from his last 25 rides.
