He gets in here off the same mark as last time too as that was an apprentice race – but the big niggles here for me are the switch to the AW, where he’s just 2-from-30, and also the drop back to 5f – his last win was over 6f.
At the age of 9 I just think this 5f trip these days tests Mokaatil’s pace – especially at a quick track like Lingers – and after a busy period might be vulnerable to a slightly fresher horse.
Yes, we could have done with a few more runners to take him on with, but at the prices there seems little downside in going against this veteran sprinter with two factors (trip and AW) good enough reasons to cling to.
