Last Seasons Final Position – 8th
Arsenal is a team whose defensive frailties were the problem last season and that ended up costing them a chance at European football again. They have drastically changed the squad for next season but what they have managed to do is get rid of a big player who was taking a huge amount of wage budget and wasn’t performing to the standards of the first team. Arteta is clearly a fan of the tiki taka style of play taking it from his Arsenal days and also the knowledge picked up at Man City where he was the Assistant Coach. He has been able to take on the services of Ceballos after greatly improving the squad in the build up to the season finale and that makes him a huge cog going forward. They have purchased a very good defender in Gabriel who will slot straight into the starting 11 and going forward will hugely shore up the backline going forward and also provide a threat from corners. They will be hoping Tierney will stay fit enough to feature in the squad as he is a big upgrade on the existing left backs available to them. They have been able to profit on Chelsea’s policy regarding older players contracts which allowed them to add the experienced Willian to the squad who will add some extra firepower and flair to the squad. It’s a big season ahead for Arteta who will have huge expectations on him from the Arsenal board and they will be looking for a minimum European qualification and good cup run.
Predicted Finishing Position – 7th
Last Season Final Position – 17th
The luckiest team still to be in the Prem is Aston Villa and they will be hoping there is no repeat of last season’s close call finish that took it down to the last day to stay in the league. They showed on many occasions that they have the players and the ability to mix it with most teams and be a threat on the counter after soaking up heaps of pressure and Grealish is the huge cog that keeps this team from ticking week in and week out. If they can keep him and also fit they will stand a huge chance of staying up with some big performances, which really they should be able to easily battle the bottom half of the premiership teams which should allow them to stay up effortlessly this season coming. They have added in the very impressive Matty Cash who has the fight of a lion and will be able to add to the team in a big way going forward. They suffered some huge injuries last season to vital players in the squad such as McGinn and Wesley and if these players have been able to get past these, the squad will be significantly better and will surprise a lot of the teams going forward. As I am writing this Villa have announced the signing of Ollie Watkins who will be looking to prove his ability in the Prem after a big season with Brentford.
Predicted Finishing Position – 14th
Brighton & Hove Albion
Last Season Final Position – 15th
Brighton have been a team that have made their name by defending and being very hard to beat, which is the huge reason they have been able to stay in the Premier league last season. They conceded significantly less goals than teams around them but they lack the fire power to push up that table any further, due to a lack of attacking intent. They have been built on the notion that draws are better than losses so they will rather sit back and soak pressure than go all out to win a game. Which is evident in them having the joint most draws in the league last season. They have been impressive in the transfer market without throwing money around, they have managed to get rid of some aging players however the big loss will be Aaron Mooy who was the cog between defense and attack, but they have managed to get a like for like replacement that most people would regard as an upgrade and it is Lallana who comes in on a free transfer who will be looking to show everyone he has what it takes to keep playing at the top level, which can only be a good thing for Brighton having a player of Lallana’s ability wanting to prove a point to all media and players across the league. Along with the addition of Veltman who has been a huge part of the Ajax set up for years coming across to add another addition to the defence. The greatest piece of business they are going to be able to do is keeping hold of the returning Ben White who comes back from being on loan a hugely improved player who showed last season he is able to mix it in the Prem and will be a huge asset to the way Brighton play going forward.
Predicted Finishing Position – 17th
Last Season Final Position – 10th
A hugely impressive performance last season by Burnley surprised many pundits, they were able to soak up a lot of pressure in their games and proved a potent threat on the break and especially set pieces, which was a big cornerstone of how impressive they played in each game. They have been largely quiet in the transfer window except for some players leaving. It was a very strange decision letting go of Hendrick who was a huge player for them last season with his fire and battling personality being a huge part of their midfield battles. They will be hoping that the same team can be impressive as well as last season and prove it wasn’t a one off and they will keep battling in the middle of the table. Which I am not sure is a realistic target, they were very much on the back foot of most games last season sneaking goals here and there which I feel will not work again and will be very much up against it as soon as the season kicks off. If their strikers are starved of any sort of service it will be a long season as they lack any type of player who can unlock a defence which most other teams in the league have at least one player capable of doing this.
Predicted Finishing Position – 18th
Last Season Final Position – 4th
Chelsea left it late last season to clinch the Champions league qualification spots. They are still learning under Lampard who continues to show a huge amount of faith in youth and will look to continue to make that a focus going forward and put in a team capable of challenging for the top spots in the league. They have done the best business in the premier league transfer window so far and will be looking to gel these players in quick to capitalise on the quality they have added to the team. They have improved all over with arguably one of the best left backs in the Prem last season in Ben Chillwell who is equally as good at defending than he is at attacking and providing quality on the flank for the attackers to bounce on. Thiago Silva is a player that was vital going forward for Chelsea who showed huge frailties at the back last season and will be hoping he can help shore up the back line along with a much improved season from Kepa or his days will be numbered in the squad. Then you have the attacking flair of Havertz and Ziyech added to the squad which is 2 players that would walk into every team in the league which is a big problem for any teams coming up against Chelsea. They will be looking to provide for the new starting striker which is Werner who has lit up the Bundesliga for numerous years and will look to continue his fine form into a new team and league. They have arguably strengthened the team enough that with solid performances they have the team to challenge right at the top which looked a long way off when the season came to an end.
Predicted Finishing Position – 2nd
Last Season Final Position – 14th
Crystal Palace was an average team last season managing to finish 14th, they will be looking to kick on as a team and finally get rid of the relegation worries that haunt them every season which they luckily escape each year. They struggled after the break and will be looking to put that behind them as they kick on for the season ahead. They have been quiet in the transfer market which probably is a good thing meaning they have been able to keep hold of their senior squad members along with the highly talented Zaha. They have added Eze into the squad who impressed for QPR last season and will be looking to test himself in the Prem. They are set to struggle this season but talks of the addition of Batshuayi will be music to Palace fans as they have been crying out for a proper striker for years and they might manage to get their man who will definitely add quality to the frontline.
Predicted Finishing Position – 15th
Last Season Final Position – 12th
Everton are a strange squad every season, they are always active in the market and expectations are high going into every season and no matter how it goes they always halter and end up underachieving in the middle of the table. Which again they have had one of the best transfer windows in recent years and will be looking to kick on and finally realise the potential they had under David Moyes. They cleared out some deadwood from the squad which has allowed them to add some real quality to the midfield area. They started with picking up Allan who has been a great player in the midfield for Napoli and will add some much needed defensive ability and an anchor for attacks, he will be able to sit back when others attack protecting the backline which is what Everton have struggled for years finding. They have managed to pick up Doucoure from Watford which is a very impressive signing for a player I believe would be an asset to most premier league teams, he has the power and tenacity to play as a box to box midfielder, he has a good knack of getting into the box and finishing off chances which will be a great asset for a team who have struggled for goals as of late. Alongside this they have managed to pick up one of the worlds best attacking midfielders in James Rodriguez who will be looking to connect the midfield to the strikers and create chances for the attacking players which really is something they have been without for years which can only bode well for the years ahead. Pickford has a big season ahead of him after struggling for form on and off and will be looking to prove to all that he can be a No1 for a top premier league team along with being England’s starting goalkeeper.
Predicted Finishing Position – 8th
Last Season Final Position – Promoted
Fulham left it late to secure promotion, going up via the play-offs in a very cagey game. Scott Parker has got them playing a very patient and controlled possession build-up which is different to the Fulham of years gone by. They averaged the lowest amount of counters in the Championship last season which is crazy for a team who ended up getting promoted. They have done the opposite of the well known mantra of throwing money at players to stay up and have largely been sensible with some good transfers and loans which will set them up well. They have let some of the fringe players out on loan to create space for the new signings and loans. They have managed to make some loans into permanent moves with the likes of Knockaert and Reed continuing to play for Fulham in the premier league, which is 2 players that were very important in the promotion last season. Lemina is a very big signing who comes in after being an impressive Southampton player for years and will shore up the midfield for Fulham after which will be a very difficult season ahead. They have brought in a very good defender in Robinson from Fulham who will be a big addition at the back and should improve the starting 11. The loan signing of Areola in goals is a big signal intent as he is a very good goalkeeper and shot stopper who will add real quality in between the sticks and with an option to buy if they are able to stay up then it looks like he will be staying permanently.
Predicted Finishing Position – 19th
Last Season Final Position – Promoted
Leeds have had a whirlwind of fortunes over the years, going from Premier league mainstays to an average championship team. A lot of plaudits have to be given to Biesla, the work he has done to reverse fortunes is massive and he has a very big reputation that is allowing Leeds to bring in players that could arguably play at a higher level/team. They have been lucky for a newly promoted squad in that they have managed to keep all the players that have got them promoted except for the very impressive Ben White who was a real stalwart at the back and will be a huge miss, they have been trying to target him all season but at this time it looks like they will miss out on him which could cause a problem at the back, leaving us wonder who will take his place and will they manage to cope with the loss. They have spent a very large portion of money on players in the hope that these players can fire them up the table and away from the relegation positions which I believe is a very big longshot which will pay off. They have managed to take Helder Costa back after a very impressive performance in the championship and it all points to him being a very good player in the prem which will only be a good thing for them going forward. They have brought in a new keeper in Meslier who will be in to battle Casilla for the no1 shirt and that will be a good battle meaning it will only increase the performances of either goalkeeper who manages to start the season as the favourite. They have worked in getting in a Ben White replacement and in Koch I believe they have just done that, he has been a regular starter in the Bundesliga for Freiburg who is easily an improvement on any defender I believe they have on their books. Then you realise that they went out and managed to grab Rodrigo which is a crazy signing for a newly promoted squad. He has the ability to light up the league and Leeds will be hoping this happens, he has been a great player in the La Liga for a team that have been in turmoil for years which leads us to believe with the right service he can bag 20+ goals easily in the Premier League. Bamford just won’t cut it in the premier league at the moment which means they have to hope Rodrigo hits the ground running.
Predicted Finishing Position – 13th
Last Season Final Position – 5th
Leicester have been a team on the improve ever since escaping relegation under Ranieri, Rodgers has come in and got his style of play ingrained in the players and that can only continue to be a plus going forward. They have managed to keep hold of all the key players of recent years except the loss of the very impressive Ben Chilwell, he is a big loss for this team and he was rarely beaten on the left side along with being an impressive attacking threat delivering some big crosses and assists. They have managed to get Castangne on board as a replacement for Chilwell and saving a lot of money in the process for what I believe could be a great piece of business for a player who has impressed for many years in exactly the same role as Chilwell, bombing up and down the wing creating some big chances and being very sound in defence. A huge part of the team is James Maddison who was a big miss in the back end of last season after being out injured, they will be hoping he can put that behind him and keep fit, cause if they keep him fit they remain a threat going forward no matter how well the other players are playing and in Vardy they have a potent goal threat who will take most of the chances that come to him.
Predicted Finishing Position – 6th
Last Season Final Position – 1st
Liverpool are literally coming off the back of the most impressive Premier league campaign for many years, for a huge portion of the season they looked almost in another world to any team in the league. They will be looking to keep this upturn going in which will be a forgone conclusion I believe. Over one season, a team will not be able to bridge the gap in quality so they are well set up for an impressive season ahead. Finally Liverpool are able to boast of a top quality backline which has been a huge problem for many years, they have Van Dijk who has literally transformed into the best center back in the world and alongside him will be Joe Gomez or Matip which leaves them in a good position along with the best full backs in the league by a long way which can only mean a lot of impressive defensive displays going forward. They have done a great bit of business by getting 12 million for Lovren which is a crazy price for an ageing player who is very average at best. They have now got an abundance of young players back from loan who will be looking to push into the first team or go out on loan which can only be good for Liverpool going forward. They have brought in Tsimikas which for 13 million isn’t a massive spend but I believe this is a very pointless signing as he will only ever get on the pitch if Robertson is injured as he just isn’t anywhere near first team quality. They still have the most potent front 3 in the premiership which will strike fear in every defence in the league and they will be looking to continue where they left off last season and if so it will just be a matter of when and not if they clinch the title for the 2nd year running.
Predicted Finishing Position – 1st
Last Season Final Position – 2nd
Man City have been an impressive team for many years now and still looked streets better than any other team except for Liverpool which should stand them in good stead. They have struggled to find the net and heavily relied on the wide players for goals due to Aguero being out injured for a huge portion of the league and at this current moment in time, Jesus just hasn’t been as impressive recently and City will be hoping that Aguero can keep fit and be the striker of years gone by. They struggled last season at the back which will be a big worry for City for the season ahead but they have looked elsewhere and can impressively boast the signing on Nathan Ake who is one of the best young defenders in the premier league last season, he is a great addition the the backline in a move that should improve the team massively, but it is yet to be seen if 2 centre halfs can play well together when both are very left footed which they will be hoping can work well. They have lost a City legend in David Silva and will struggle to replace such an important cog of the team but with Phil Foden they have a young replacement who in time should fill the boots of Silva and they will be hoping he takes a big step forward this season and kicks on. They are beginning to become a very big squad and boast a huge amount of wingers in their ranks which begs the question why did they go out and sign Ferran Torres, yes he is an impressive player but is he any better than the wingers they currently have and realistically the answer is no which makes me believe they just wanted to be active in the market to let everyone know they still have the spending power and can battle anyone for signatures, Torres can be a big player in years to come but at the moment he will be nothing other than a rotation player and this is far from what they need when they need to bridge the gap to Liverpool.
Predicted Finishing Position – 4th
Last Season Final Position – 3rd
Man United are in a very important stage currently, after struggling for a few years they will be hoping that they can finally kick on and improve as a team which the fans have been crying out for. Things have improved under Ole and they will be hoping he can continue to put his stamp on the team and improve the team as a whole while they continue to learn the style of play he wants from the team. They improved massively to the back end of the season and will be looking to take that into the new season. They managed to get Alexis Sanchez off the wage bill and that would have done the finances a world of good for a player who never impressed after being the leading player for Arsenal for years. They have managed to pip a lot of big teams to the signing of Van De Beek who will be a massive addition to the midfield and strengthen it massively. They now have the resurgence of Pogba in the back end of the season add that to the impressive Fernandes performances that were a massive part last season to them getting into the Champions league spots then you have a midfield 3 that rivals any team in the world and that can only be a good thing for Man United going forward. They have Chris Smalling returning from his loan and after impressive performances in the Serie A, fans are eager for him to return to the first team mix which will only be a positive for Man United at the back. It is easy to get optimistic for United going forward. They have a real battle between the goalkeepers which will only serve to be a good thing going forward, most believe that it is Hendersons time to be given a chance between the sticks and I can’t see why that shouldn’t be the case. They have been on the case of Sancho all summer and it is looking like it will go down to the wire and that signing isn’t fully required but we know it will be a huge addition. They already have Rashford, Martial and Greenwood impressing massively which leads me to believe the money should be spent elsewhere like a starting centre back and left back to take them to the next level. Man United continue to be in discussions with Real Madrid regarding the signing of Reguillion for Left back but keep getting stuck on Madrid requesting a buy back clause which for good reason United dont want any part. A big season ahead for United as all eyes are on Ole and his mission, make or break season for the club.
Predicted Finishing Position – 3rd
Last Season Final Position – 13th
Newcastle continue to fight a battle on the pitch and off of it. THey continue to have an owner who is more interested in Mugs that are too big for any normal drink than running a football team and therefore continues to be linked with selling the club, which always fails at the last minute. Steve Bruce is well loved at the club and will be looking to really kick on after an impressive campaign and push into the top half and after a string of impressive signing then this could be the season it happens. They have managed to keep their squad together after an impressive last season and have been able to add some quality signings which will no doubt take them to the next level. They have secured the free signing of Hendrick who will add some real fight and talent to the midfield along with a never die attitude that will ensure he becomes a fans favourite as Newcastle are known for the never dying fight on the pitch towards the end goal of winning a game at any means necessary. They also managed to pick up Ryan Fraser for free after he was attracting interest from Arsenal and Liverpool only last season which shows how remarkable his rise has been with Bournemouth, he will be a cracking addition who will keep fans on the edge of there seats with his impressive attacking intent, he is a player who loves to get his head down and charge at the oppositions back line and someone who will be hoping he can get on the end of these attacking crosses etc is Calum Wilson who comes on board from Bournemouth after impressive for them for numerous years, he will be a great addition due to his poacher like instinct and will be hoping that his service from other players is good enough for him to bag the goals for his new squad. Newcastle have had an impressive window and the signing of Jamal Lewis just further highlights the fact considering he was close to signing for Liverpool a few weeks back, he is an exciting youngster who stood out for Norwich last season at the back even though they were eventually relegated. An impressive window leaves this team very optimistic of a top half finish.
Predicted Finishing Position – 11th
Last Season Final Position – 9th
Sheffield United were the surprise of last season managing to finish a very impressive 9th place. The way they set out to play is very impressive for a newly promoted team, they are not content in sitting back and are open to taking the game to the opposition, the way their centre halves overlap just shows the real attacking intent that Wilder has managed to establish at the club. They are lucky to be in a position where they have a very impressive Calum Robinson returning from an impressive loan who looks well set to establish himself in the first team picture going forward and it will be a real shame if this isn’t released by the club. They have been unlucky on the dealings regarding Dean Henderson who will remain a huge loss due to his outstanding performances for them last season but they wasted no time in replacing him with the impressive Aaron Ramsdale who stood out in a Bournemouth team last season with a string of big saves and top quality performances. They have quickly gone out and ransacked Derby for the duo of Max Lowe and Jayden Bogle, which are 2 very impressive defenders who will no doubt be in the first team picture and quickly show their true ability in the premier league. They have managed once again to secure a quality loan from one of the league’s best teams and this time it is Chelsea and the loan signing of Ethan Ampadu who is a very impressive welsh youngster who will surely be a star in the making and will be looking to test himself for Sheffield and they will have a quality defensive midfielder on their hands for the season coming.
Predicted Finishing Position – 10th
Last Season Final Position – 11th
Southampton are a team that continues to fly under the radar, they never pull up any trees but are very consistent and continue to impress the neutral with the way they make themselves hard to beat but also are very potent going forward with an impressive midfield and striker which the resurgence of Danny Ings certainly helped with him having his best season in a long time and they will be hoping he can continue with his line of form and keep it going into this season. They have had some large outgoings this window and they are yet to be replaced which will make most Southampton fans very wary of a poorer season ahead. They have lost Hojbjerg and Lemina from the central midfield which will be a very big miss for the team going forward. Hojbjerg was a real pillar of the squad and helped protect the backline from any counters and will be sorely missed going forward. They have gone out and made the signing of Walker-Peters permanent after his loan in the 2nd half of last season, he was impressive when a part of the squad and they will be hoping he can continue to impress at the back for them. They have got Carillo returning from his loan for Leganes and it is yet to be seen if he will be able to get into the first team but he was a regular starter for Leganes and should be given the chance to impress the manager ahead of the new season.
Predicted Finishing Position – 12th
Last Season Final Position – 6th
Tottenham are a team that have struggled to live up the old hype around them, for a period of time they looked like a very impressive outfit and one that was pushing into the champions league spots but after a few seasons struggling they are still fighting to get back to where they used to be. They now have the huge personality of Mourinho in charge and will be looking for him to put his stamp on the team and help them kick on again. What Mourinho will do is make Tottenham very hard to beat like he has managed to do with every one of his teams so far. He has brought in Docherty from Wolves who has impressed at right back for Wolves since they have been in the Premier League and will be a huge addition to the back line and is a significant upgrade on Aurier who has failed to live up to the hype of his transfer. Add in the impressive capture of Hojbjerg who will add much needed fight and all round play to the midfield will be a huge part of the Tottenham squad going forward. He will act as the linchpin between defence and attack and will make sure that he positions himself well to break up attacks before they can become dangerous. 2nd season syndrome could be possible for Mourinho so he will be hoping he can get rid of this stigma behind him and use his managerial abilities to propel them back into European contention.
Predicted Finishing Position – 9th
Last Season Final Position – Promoted
West Brom were very impressive last season in the Championship and will be under no illusion of how difficult the up and coming season will be. What they have going for them is that Bilic will be aware of the task at hand and will have his team set up to be hard to beat to try to gain as many points as possible for which a big battle is ahead for them. They were largely impressive due to the attacking abilities of Mattheus Perriera and Diangana and due to some luck and the added cash they have been able to take both players back as permanent signings. They will be hoping these players can impress as much in the Premiership as they did in the Championship because much of the hope of the season will be straight on the shoulders of these 2 players as they are streets above any other players in this team. If these players can impress they will be quickly up on the shop window and wont last long at West Brom. They have been very conservative in the signings they have made which makes me believe they know that they are very much against it and will struggle to stay in the league. They added in Kipre from the recently relegated team of Wigan and he is a vert commanding centre half who will add to the numbers but I would suspect he will be very much a backup player. The squad they have will be very much up against it and without strengthening massively it will be a quick stop over on their way back to the Championship.
Predicted Finishing Position – 20th
Last Season Final Position – 16th
West Ham are a team that are very much in turmoil, in recent days their own players have expressed displeasure at how the squad is run and it very much seems like a disjointed club at the moment. They performed rather well at the back end of the season with a huge amount of fight and desire on show which ultimately stood them in good stead as they were able to stay up by the skin of their teeth. The board have managed to go over David Moyes head and sanction the sale of the very impressive youngster that is Diangana to what most people will see as a relegation rival. He impressed massively for West Brom and most fans wanted him in and around the starting 11 due to his clear ability so for him to be sold is a kick in the teeth to most fans who see West Ham as a team on the clear decline. One bright note for the squad is the permanent signing of Soucek who was a massive part of the squad in the 2nd half of the season. He will be a huge cog in the midfield alongside Rice and they will be hoping to create a great partnership together. Bowen came into his own near the end and will be looking to hit the ground running to allow West Ham fans to get involved in the hype of him being a top quality player and take away from the turmoil that is affecting their club.
Predicted Finishing Position – 16th
Last Season Final Position – 7th
Wolves have been very impressive recently, quickly becoming a force in the Premier League and will be looking to continue to kick on as they have done recently. They will be looking to push towards the champions league spots after being very close to doing so last season. They have lost the services of Doherty who will be a big loss at the right back spot but it is one that Wolves have the quality to deal with and move on as nothing has happened. On the other end of the spectrum they have taken on Fabio Silva for 40 million which is a great piece of business, he will slip right into the starting 11 right next to Jimenez as a deadly strike force that would put fear into every other defence in the league. They completed the signing of a very ageing Marcal who adds extra numbers into the backline and will provide a very good back up to the starting 11. They continue a mesmeric rise since the promotion of the team a few years back and they continue to build a very impressive squad thanks to the connection they have with Portuguese players and they are quickly becoming one of the most entertaining squads in the league. They have Ruben Neves who is one of those players who can unlock a defence or literally do something out of this world which he has become known to do.
Predicted Finishing Position – 5th
